Your baby’s teeth.
Let us try and have no fillings at least in
our adult teeth.
This is our aim and the following points
will help you.
Teething.
High temperatures, irritable, dribbling,
red cheeks and a worried tired parent.
All are symptoms of teething
To help your child through this period here
are some helpful tips
1.
Lots of Liquid (Milk or Water not juice)
2.
Teething rings (rings can be kept in the fridge to sooth
the pain).
3.
Visit your dentist if you are concerned.
Tooth brushing
The earlier you start this the better. Get
your child used to brushing his/her teeth.
Some useful pointers in brushing:
·
Let them watch every time you brush your teeth.
Children always want to have a go at what their parent is doing.
·
Use brushing as a game.
·
With your supervision your child can start
brushing. What will happen is that all the little person will do
is chew the brush, but this is getting your child used to the
feel of brushing.
·
Twice a day you should brush your childs teeth,
using childs toothpaste until they are 6 years old.
Disclosing tablets can be used these are
blue or red tablets which stain the areas which have been missed
when brushing.
Diet
We all know what things cause holes in our
teeth: sweets, chocolate, fizzy drinks. Yet it is difficult to
cut them out of our diets. Frequency is the problem i.e.
snacking. Children who make there sweets last all day will have
a constant sugar solution in our mouths and so have a greater
likelihood of having holes in their teeth. If we have to have
sweet things keep them until meal times.
Drinks
If you can avoid sweet drinks, cordial etc.
do so. Milk and water are the ideal drinks (not milkshakes). At
night never leave your child with a sweet drink in a
bottle at night; do not dip dummies in sweet drinks.
Visit your dentist as soon as possible to
get your child used to visiting the dentist.
